MARUTI SUZUKI FACELIFT (2018)
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz remains the most popular sedan in its category despite both the Honda Cityand Hyundai Verna receiving significant updates to make them seem more value for money. Maruti has decided not to risk losing out to the competition by continuing to sell an old car. The carmaker was expected to give the Ciaz a facelift when the car began selling through the company’s premium Nexa network in March 2017, but it has postponed that till the Auto Expo in February 2018.
The Ciaz facelift will be comprehensive enough to stand out among the likes of the LED-heavy City and the modern-looking Verna. Changes expected include a new front grille, redesign headlamps with LED DRLs, LED taillamps and stylish alloy wheels. The ‘S’ variant could feature a different body kit too, which will include new skirts at the front, side and rear, along with a new rear spoiler.Apart from the above updates, the big news is that the Ciaz facelift will come with an all-new 104hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine. This new motor (Codename K15B) will replace the 1.4-litre petrol that powers the outgoing model. What’s more, the new Ciaz 1.5-litre petrol will come with smart-hybrid tech similar to the one seen on the current Ciaz diesel.
The SHVS system comes with start-stop technology and uses an integrated starter generator (ISG). The ISG functions as a battery charger during braking and acts as the starter motor when the start-stop technology is in use. SHVS-equipped cars also get an electric boost via the Engine Power Assist (EPA) system, where the ISG supplements the engine’s power during acceleration. This system will continue to be offered on the unchanged 1.3-litre diesel engine powering the refreshed Ciaz.
